Since graduating from law school last summer, I have been intensely focused on preparing for the California Bar Exam, which I plan to take in February. As a result, I have not posted here for quite a while. I am doing so now in response to the wildfires that have been devastating swathes of Southern California so vast that the resulting loss of life, homes, history, and sense of place is difficult to comprehend. I hope you will join me in continuing to pray for all who are affected by, or battling, these fires.
But I also invite you to offer tangible help by donating to the Chapel of St. Maximilian Kolbe. St. Max’s is less a “parish” in the conventional sense than it is an umbrella organization under which much of the ministry of the Diocese of the Pacific of the Old Catholic Union of the West takes place in the San Gabriel Valley and adjacent communities. In response to the current wildfires, this ministry, led unflaggingly by Bishop Dylan Littlefield, encompasses the work of some twenty volunteers (clergy and lay), and partnerships with organizations such as the Garibaldina Society, World Central Kitchen, Feed the Streets, and church communities of several denominations. St. Max’s has been providing on-site pastoral care to displaced persons and first responders, as well as some 1,000 hot meals and counting. If you would like to contribute to these efforts, please do so by following this link. You can be assured that your entire donation will go toward helping those in need. Thank you, and God bless you.
